I have been a Basic Life Instructor for CPR for years now, but never thought I would EVER have to use the training for myself or a loved one. Then one day while giving my toddler son a bath, he suddenly went into a seizure and stopped breathing. I don’t know what would have happened or what I would have done if I hadn’t had my training from the AHA. My husband and I sprung into action, and I remember going through the AHA BLS algorithm over and over in my head – Pull from the water, Call 911, Airway, Breathing, Circulation…
While it felt like forever, it was actually just a few minutes before help was on the scene, and my son was on the way to the hospital. Today he is a healthy, happy child, and I teach my students my story and to always be prepared for a Basic Life Support emergency.
Thank you American Heart Association.
