I am 32 years old and just lost my mom to heart disease on 08/14/2010. She was only 53 years old. I didn't know she had this terrible disease. I don't think she did either. She was "fine" Friday afternoon when I spoke to her on the phone, and I got the call at 6:30 am on Saturday morning. She was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead at 3:15 Saturday afternoon. Her heart was incapable of withstanding any type of life-saving measures, and it just stopped beating.
I have had 2 abnormal EKG's within the past year and just blew them off to stress. Since my mom's death, I have totally reevaluated my own situation, and have made plans to due further testing with my cardiologist.
My reason for joining the movement is not only in memory of my mom, but also for myself and my 2 beautiful daughters. The more aware we are of heart disease, the more I can make changes in my own life so I don't have to put my children through the same thing I am going through now.
