My name is Jerry Cobb and I am 58 years young. This is the story of my family and our battle with heart disease.
My Mother had her 1st bypass surgery when she was just 59 years old. Then a few years later my Father passed away at the age of 63 of massive heart attack. After which my Mother had another heart attack and had her second bypass surgery.I was just newly divorced from a 24 year marriage and still had one of 3 sons ( age then 12), to care for. I then moved my Mother into my home to help care for her. She lived with me for over 15 years and through this time had a 3rd bypass and multiple hospitalizations, and many other heart related medical procedures. She had so many heart related medical issues that it was a terrible thing to watch her struggle to get through every day. After her last hospital stay in 2000 she came home on hospice care and I sat by her side for 5 days and watched her pass . It was the hardest thing I have ever done. My Mother had many opportunities to help herself and her HEART grow stronger, but she would try for a short time to eat healthy or walk ,but that would be very short lived. She loved her bacon , and fried foods. I still to this day know that she would have had a much happier and enjoyable life if she had only tried to help herself.
I try to eat healthy and exercise but now that I been been disabled due to chronic back problems and arthritis , it is a lot harder. I remind myself constantly of how it was for my Mother and that I need stay on top of my health issues and take charge of my body and health.+
