Surviving/living with heart disease

At 38 I found myself in the emergency room and no idea it was a heart attack!
Posted on 08/29/10 at 1:13 PM

A week after my 38th birthday after working a 12hour shift I was at home and started coughing and could not stop. Soon i was unable to catch my breath and was coughing up blood. I went to the emergency room right away, when i arrived i was unable to enter on my own and my o2 level was at 30. After hours in the er and being on oxygen they admitted me.  It was not until the next morning while i was alone for the first time that the doctor walked in to tell me I had had a heart attack. I cried and am still scared. That is when he told me that most diabetic women don't normally show signs of having a heart attack. After being diabetic for so many years you would of thought that would of been good information to know! I have always followed a diabetic diet and am now also doing the low sodium and cholestoral as well. It has only been 5 weeks since my heart attack but it has impacted my life greatly. I am going to do my best to make sure I learn all I can about this and do what i can to help people be informed about it. Thank you for listening
