A mother and grandmother

I lost my mom 3 years ago to what we're pretty sure was a heart attack. Thankfully she passed in her sleep but the loss is there every day. Not a day goes by that I just want to call her on the phone and talk to her again. She was only 56.
She was one of those people who never went to the doctor. Never thought there was anything going on, she always felt fine. From what's been gathered from right before she passed away was that her dentist actually recommended she go in for high blood pressure. During all the routine health testing she found out she was diabetic, had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and the fact that she smoked put her at higher risk for problems. A cardiologist performed a stress test and nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary. A few months later she was gone.
We don't realize the choices we're making are going to be affecting us later on. Not only us but the ones who love us and the ones we love. My niece was almost 2 when my mom died and she's grown up not having that grandma who wanted to spoil her and teach her and just watch her grow. As I've recently gotten into the medical field I've realized more how important our health is and how little some people seem to realize the consequences of their actions. If the awareness had been out there sooner or people knew more about their health and what to do about it people may have been making better choices and living a lot longer. We need to keep our mothers and grandmothers with us a lot longer.
