Katherine Cooper’s Story
Katherine's Story
Today I sit here feeling sad and angry that I was previously treated for heart disease but that, because of the lack of technology, and most importantly, the lingering bias of many health care providers that heart disease in women mimics heart disease in men, I was pronounced 'fine' and no longer requiring medication or treatment. I had to pass out on a shopping trip with my husband after months of chest tightness and fluttering heart palpitations that were ignored. This inaccurate diagnosis was substantiated by how I LOOKED: I am the appropriate weight for my height, am physically fit and eat a healthy low-fat diet.I am so very grateful for the Cardiac MRI I underwent this week that detect the microvascular heart disease that was clearly present and not treated.I encourage all women with family history of heart disease as I have to ask their doctor for a cardiac MRI. Let's save lives.
