My name is Suzanne Stevens and I am 45 years old. I lead an active lifestyle (skiing, kayaking and hiking), am not overweight and eat a healthy diet.
In November of 2010 I began having symptoms of fatigue and anxiety. This is where my journey with heart disease began..... I had 4 doctors I was telling my signs and symptoms to! My symptoms rapidly increased to shortness of breath on exertion and then a tightness or squeezing sensation on the left side of my chest. After 4 months of telling my doctors about my symptoms my cardiologist finally listened when I told him "I love to ski with my family but I can no longer do it because I can not walk from the parking lot to the bottom of the hill without "chest pains". After several tests I was taken to the Cath Lab and had angioplasty and a medicated stent implanted for a critical 99% blockage of the Left Anterior Descending Artery! I was extremely lucky and did not sustain any heart damage!
The bottom line to my story is that if I had not been persistent I would not be here to tell you it today!
I am adjusting to my new lifestyle and participating in a 12 week cardiac rehabilitation program,,, medications, diet, exercise and stress reduction.
If you think you are having a problem do not give up or take "stress" or "anxiety" for an answer!
