Surviving/living with heart disease

At 19 I was diagnosed with a deadly heart condition.

On February 16th, 2001,  when I was 18, my dad passed away from heart diease.  It was very sudden and without warning.  He was one of many family members to die from heart diease, but no doctors knew what was cauing my family members to suddenly drop dead.  My dad's sister passed away when she was 19, and I had a cousin who died when he was 8 to this disese that no physician could explain.  After my dad passed away, my mom decided to have my brother and I tested and sent our blood to the Mayo Clinic in MN.  After almost a year, I received a phone call from a doctor at the clinic who wanted me to fly out to MN to run tests to determine if I had a disease.  I flew back there and after a week of testing, it was determined that I have a rare heart condition that causes the heart to stop beating for no apparent reason.  I flew home for a second opinion, and it was determined that I required a defibulator and pacemaker.  About a month before my 20th birthday, I had surgery to have the devise implanted in my chest.  I just recently had to have the batteries changed in June 2010 and am still healing, but doing well.  However, my former employer failed to inform me that she stopped paying the premium on our health insurance a month and 1/2 before my battery replacement surgery so now I owe over $30,000 in doctor bills.  I wanted to share my story to infom people that if they beleive that there is something wrong, continue to research and contact multiple health professionals.  If my family would have continued to push for more research, perhaps we would not have had to deal with the loss of our family members.
