Women just like us – mothers, sisters, friends – are dying at the rate of one per minute because they don’t know what I know: heart disease kills. That’s why I want you to take action now and become part of the movement against women and heart disease. I’ve sent you the Heart Health Kit below so you can get heart healthy. One woman dies almost every minute from heart disease. Yet studies show that only 21% of women view heart disease as their greatest health threat. That’s why the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women worked with NBC to bring the faces of heart disease into living rooms across the country in the fall 2010 television special, Go Red For Women Presents: Speak Up to Save Lives.

Featuring actress Jennie Garth and hosted by the TODAY Show’s Hoda Kotb, Speak Up To Save Lives is our third TV special and tells the inspirational stories of three women living with heart disease – the No. 1 killer of women.  The cast of real women were selected through Go Red For Women’s nationwide casting call in February 2010. The television special is nationally syndicated on NBC through February 2011. Here's a preview of the TV special.

For every heart, there is a story – and these stories are at the heart of Go Red. They often go untold because women are not aware of their risk factors and do not understand the choices they can make to prevent heart disease. Speak up and share your story.
