One woman dies almost every minute from heart disease. Yet studies show that only 21% of women view heart disease as their greatest health threat. That’s why the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women worked with NBC to bring the faces of heart disease into living rooms across the country in the fall television special, Untold Stories of the Heart.
Featuring Marie Osmond and hosted by Hoda Kotb, the show raises awareness through the personal stories of women living with heart disease. The women were selected during a nationwide casting call hosted in February 2008 by Go Red For Women. Meet all nine of our Heart of Go Red women and read their stories here.
Go Red For Women Presents - Untold Stories of the Heart, featuring stories from:
- Marie Osmond: After losing her mother and grandmother to heart disease, the legendary entertainer was inspired to reduce her personal risk and spread awareness.
- Theresa – This mother of two bid a tearful goodbye to her daughters after her undiagnosed symptoms led to a nearly fatal heart attack.
- Stephanie – This young woman’s unexpected brush with heart disease kick-started an active lifestyle.
For every heart, there is a story – and these stories are at the heart of Go Red. They often go untold because women are not aware of their risk factors and do not understand the choices they can make to prevent heart disease. Share your story.
Through Untold Stories of the Heart, Go Red For Women hopes to raise awareness of the No. 1 killer of women: heart disease.
