Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women

Since 2004, the American Heart Association’s signature women's initiative, Go Red for Women, has addressed the awareness and clinical care gaps of women’s greatest health threat, cardiovascular disease (CVD). We are prepared to meet the evolving needs of women now, and at every age, every stage and every season of their lives as their trusted, relevant source for credible, equitable health solutions.

Heart Attack Survivor Felt Dismissed

2026 Go Red for Women Class of Survivors Priti Langer
Priti Langer bolted awake with chest pain after a concert with friends. Paramedics suggested it was a panic attack or that she had overdone it at the concert. Supporting Women at Every Age and Stage of Life

Our Evolving Approach

We’re working to change a woman’s healthcare experience—so they are heard the first time, conditions are identified earlier, and care is built specifically for women. Our goal is simple: help women take back control of their health and their time.

Stages of Life

We’re advancing research, improving care across the life course, expanding access, and delivering trusted guidance where women already are. Together, these efforts are redefining what women can expect from healthcare.
