Cuban-born actress, Malillany Marín, has chosen the American Heart Association’s Go Red Por Tu Corazón movement as her winning charity of choice on the hit show, ¡Mira Quién Baila!
Now in its fourth season, ¡Mira Quién Baila! [Look Who’s Dancing!] is a star-studded reality dance competition (similar to ABC’s Dancing with the Stars) in which ten celebrities compete for a grand prize of $185,000 to donate to the charity of their choice.
Marín, who suffers from high blood pressure, has chosen to support Go Red Por Tu Corazón as her selected charity to bring awareness to the importance of healthy living to avoid heart disease. Go Red Por Tu Corazón is the sister cause of Go Red For Women, focused on raising awareness among Hispanic women of their No. 1 killer—heart disease.
The show, which garners a whopping six to eight million viewers each night, follows celebrities and their professional dance partners over 11 weeks, with dance competitions before a panel of judges and a studio audience. The charity selected by each celebrity automatically received $5,000 on behalf of Univision for its inclusion on the show, and may also receive additional funds on behalf of other show sponsors.
As of Sept. 23, 2013, Marín has won a total of $10,000 for Go Red Por Tu Corazón, after winning the second episode, and another $5,000 for the cause.
