Memorial Day: Go Red, Supporters Honor Vets

This Memorial Day, Go Red For Women joins Americans in honoring our military personnel who’ve served and remembering those who’ve given their life in our nation’s service.

May is National Military Appreciation Month and we all share an equal responsibility to thank our military communities and to acknowledge their hard work and sacrifices they make throughout the year

Many of our Go Red members – including Go Red spokesperson Gail Alexander -Wright – have either served, are currently active or have spouses in the military.  We salute you all.

Go Red Alliances Participate

Go Red has relationships with national associations and organizations that share the same priorities about women and heart disease.

One of our alliances is Blue Star Families, a national non-profit that works to support, connect and empower military families. On May 10, Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Go Red and Blue Star Families celebrated our military communities at events across the U.S.  Appreciation bags filled with Go Red and Blue Star Families items were distributed at Walter Reed Medical Center, “Date Night In” events in Miami and military spouse retreats in Arizona and Nebraska, to name a few.

Says Blue Star, “Organizing local service projects like these to honor our military is a great way for the public to make a positive impact and to show their support for our military community.”

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs , another of our alliances, is dedicated to fighting heart disease in women veterans, the fastest growing segment of the veteran population. The VA has teamed with the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement to help inform women veterans of their risk for cardiovascular disease—the No. 1 killer of women and women veterans.

The American Heart Association has also teamed with the White House’s Joining Forces initiative, in support of our military and their families.
