I was diagnosed with a heart lung condition over 30 years ago. However, I was always proactive about taking care of myself by eating right, exercising, and taking my medications. I also see a heart specialist on a regular basis to keep my heart, cholesterol and blood pressure in good health.
Well, in March 2010, I went for my regular checkup and the doctor noticed an irregular EKG. So, I was called in for further tests. After further testing, I was informed that things were ok, but “not quite right,” I may be in need of a pace-maker at some point in the future, but not immediately.
On April 12, 2010, I was at my daughter’s house babysitting my granddaughter while my son-in-law was in the hospital (Type 1 diabetic), and I began to feel a pain in my stomach and under my arm. My husband took me home when my daughter brought my son-in-law home from the hospital. I took an aspirin and some antacid, but with no relief. My husband then took me to the nearest hospital because the pains grew more severe. Upon initial tests at the hospital, it was discovered that I was having a heart attack – right then and there! My heart specialist was called and as I was about to be air-flighted to the heart trauma hospital, I went into full cardiac arrest. I don’t remember this part, but my family told me about it.
I was (obviously) revived and air-flighted to have a stent put into the artery that was 100% blocked and a few days later, I was back in surgery to have a stent put into the artery that was 95% blocked.
Here I am today, praising God and thankful that he saw me through! Yesterday I celebrated my 62nd birthday and the greatest gift I received my my testimony to say I am here and I AM A SURVIVOR!!!
