Gives and receives support

Clarissa's Story

My mom had heart surgery when she was a little girl. I had heart surgery when I was 14 months, 4 years old and 30 years old. The last one they had to replace the pulmonary valve and also the mitral valve. I can tell such a difference in the way I feel.  My niece is now having surgery. She is 7 months old.  I wish more people were more involved with the heart disease issue.  When I tell people to wear red to show support for the baby, they look puzzled. Everyone knows pink is for breast cancer, but nobody knows about red for the heart.  We all need to get the word out. Heart disease is out there. We need more support. Both my grandmothers passed away of heart attacks.  Heart disease is so well known in my family.
