A Woman’s Health: Every Age, Every Stage
A woman’s heart health can change throughout her different stages of life.
Women motivate each other. Educate each other. Support each other. Inspire each other. Let’s Go Red together to be seen, to be counted, to be heard, to make an impact.
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women
Since 2004, the American Heart Association’s signature women's initiative, Go Red for Women, has addressed the awareness and clinical care gaps of women’s greatest health threat, cardiovascular disease (CVD). We are prepared to meet the evolving needs of women now, and at every age, every stage and every season of their lives as their trusted, relevant source for credible, equitable health solutions.

Nearly 45% of women ages 20+ are living with some form of cardiovascular disease.
Less than half of women entering pregnancy in the U.S. have optimal cardiovascular health.

Women experience unique life stages, such as pregnancy and menopause, that can put them at an increased risk for CVD.
What’s Happening Now
Heart Attack Survivor Felt Dismissed
Priti Langer bolted awake with chest pain after a concert with friends. Paramedics suggested it was a panic attack or that she had overdone it at the concert. Priti insisted on going to the hospital because she knew something was wrong. Once there, she was told she had suffered a SCAD heart attack.
First-Ever Clinical Guideline for CKM Syndrome
Heart disease goes beyond the heart. At least 3 out of 4 U.S. adults may have reversible cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome, a health disorder made up of heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes and obesity. The syndrome’s first-ever guideline addresses prevention, screening, and care.

Supporting Women at Every Age and Stage of Life
Our Evolving Approach
We’re working to change a woman’s healthcare experience—so they are heard the first time, conditions are identified earlier, and care is built specifically for women. Our goal is simple: help women take back control of their health and their time.
Stages of Life
We’re advancing research, improving care across the life course, expanding access, and delivering trusted guidance where women already are. Together, these efforts are redefining what women can expect from healthcare.
