My father had a massive heart attack when I was sixteen. We lived in a remote area in Texas and when I called 911 the operator told me it would take 45 minutes for EMS to arrive, fifteen minutes later he stopped breathing. The operator helped me with CPR advice and was able to revive him. Ems arrived and I rode in the ambulance with them to the nearest hospital, his heart stopped three times on the trip. The doctors told me he was probably not going to make it and brought me in to say goodbye, but he stabilized and was then airlifted to a nicer hospital for open heart surgery. He was in a coma for three weeks after surgery.
That day has effected every other day of my life, heart disease runs rampant in my family and I believe leading a healthy lifestyle is the best method of prevention!
