Jill's Story

My name is Jill, i was born with a very slow pulse, at first they didn’t know what it was, it actually took them 8 years to tell my mom i have a congenital heart block, for those of you who might not know, my electrical system was not working in my heart, the blood wasn’t pumping fast enough to the heart, i was a very scared little girl i use to pass out all the time, not remembering  for a few moments, this would happen in school, or playing with my friends, it would make me feel scared and different. The doctor gave me many tests, they thought it was epilepsy, but finally when i was admitted in the hospital, one of the doctors said she needs a pacemaker,  it worked, then i was scheduled for one to be inserted inside! It saved my life, because i am totally dependent on it for life, but i am also grateful, that in 1971 they had them, i have had my ups and downs with it, because it is an artificial device, but i would say it gave me the chance to do everything i wanted to do, and i am still doing good, i am 50 years young! I have a great family. I would love anybody that has a pacemaker to share their story, any of your stories would be great to hear!
