At the age of 32 I had a heart attack caused by a Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD). I was healthy, ate right, and just had my second child (was two weeks post-partum). I was reading a bedtime story to my then 2 year old son, when my symptoms started. I had sudden crushing chest pains, difficulty breathing, overall sick feeling, upper back pain, and then arm pain. I knew something wasn’t right. My husband took me to the hospital only to discover I was having a heart attack. Because of the rarity of SCAD, doctors didn’t really know what to do with me. I was medically managed. My heart did sustain damage from the attack. Luckily, I have had no issues since then and feel like my life is as “normal” as it can be.
