What is a Strategically Focused Research Network?
A Strategically Focused Research Network (SFRN) is a mechanism that provides the AHA an opportunity to address key strategic issues.
What doe SFRNs focus on?
Specific SFRNs focus on the understanding, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a particular research topic of interest. In 2016, the Go Red for Women SFRN was launched through generous funding by longtime donor Sarah Soter with supporting funds from the AHA.
Columbia University Medical Center Johns Hopkins Medicine, Magee-Women’s Research Institute, NYU School of Medicine, and UC San Diego School of Medicine make up the five research institutes in the SFRM studying a range of topics in women including relationships between stress, sedentary behavior, poor sleep, pregnancy and heart-failure.
