Life's Essential 8™ for Women

We all want to live our healthiest, happiest lives. Yet, different life stages like pregnancy, motherhood and menopause can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke in women. The American Heart Association’s Life’s Essential 8 are the key measures for improving and maintaining cardiovascular health. Supporting good heart and brain health at any age helps lower the risk for cardiovascular diseases and other major health problems later in life.
Life’s Essential 8 comprises two major areas: Health Behaviors and Health Factors
Life's Essential 8™ for Pregnancy
Good cardiovascular health starts before birth. Studies show that a mother’s cardiovascular health influences her baby’s cardiovascular health years into that baby’s life. Poor cardiovascular health in a child’s early life can cause problems later, too.
The American Heart Association’s Life’s Essential 8™ for Pregnancy are the key measures for improving and maintaining cardiovascular health while pregnant and in the critical months after. The eight elements are made up of health behaviors including diet, exercise, sleep and quitting tobacco and health factors including body mass index, cholesterol levels, blood sugar and blood pressure.
